I finished World's Fair by E.L. Doctorow. This is for the Celebrate the Author challenge primarily (Doctorow was born in January), but also works for Read Your Own Books, 20 Books in 2009, and the 100+ reading challenge.
I liked this book so much more than Ragtime. This is about a New York family during the Great Depression. The Altschulers (Dave, Rose, Donald and Edgar) live in the Bronx and are dealing with economic hardships. It's mostly told from Edgar's perspective, but his mom and older brother narrate occasional chapters.
I would definitely recommend this.
