Well, Veronica Mars was awfully good at the detective business, and she was just a kid. (Just kidding.)

I haven't read this, though it sits on my shelf. I don't even remember buying it, in fact. I'm hoping to finish everything I have that I haven't read by year's end (or, um, close to it), but I haven't placed a high priority on this one.

Maybe that's why I didn't like this so much. I wanted Veronica Mars or Kinsey Millhone or Tess Monaghan or my beloved VI Warshawski. She was none of them. :)

I may be able to finish all my unread books in two or three years. If I can stick to the book-buying hiatus (snicker) this year will make a huge, huge dent.

Well, your book collection is very, very impressive. I'm pretty sure yours completely dwarfs mine. My problem is that the majority of my unread books are historical/biographical/political in nature. Which, don't get me wrong, they interest me. Except I just never seem to be in the mood to read, for example, my three-volume, 1,000-page (each) collection on the rise and fall of Nazi Germany. Sigh.

My jaw just dropped. Holy crap.

I know what you mean, though. I think it'd be smart if I just took The Dark Side to the used bookstore, because I don't think I'll ever really want to read about how the government abuses civil liberties through its war on terror.

Seriously. I always mean to clean out my collection. I do. Except...I can't part with my books. Even those I will never read, ever.
I came to Precious Ramotswe via books on cd, and the narrator is from South Africa, so she tells the story in the accent, and more important, the lilt of conversational flow of that area. That paced the book so much better than reading straight because it gave the feel of the meandering culture and the book flowed like a little stream around the different points of the story. I know it's not for everyone, but I loved that book. I wish you did too, but we can't have everything.
I know. It's very hard for me. I imagine it'd be like giving away a child. If I liked children. Which I don't.
