Finished Artichoke's Heart by Suzanne Supplee for the New Author Challenge.
This is about Rosemary, a teenager in Tennessee. Rosemary (nicknamed "artichoke" by the popular girls because she once wore a huge green jacket) is overweight--not just 10 pounds or whatever, but huge. She's hit the 200 pound mark. Her mom and aunt are pressuring her to lose weight (Christmas gifts: two self-help books, a treadmill and tickets to a weight loss conference) and she has no friends. (As in literally no friends.)
So she decides to start losing the weight, because how hard can it be, right? We all know what to do--eat less, make better food choices and exercise more. Except it's hard, because she's an emotional eater.
A football player seems to like her, and she's totally conflicted. She likes him, too, but she can't believe that a guy--especially a popular athlete--would like her.
If you've ever had weight issues, I think you'd like this book. Rosemary's very relatable, and she seems like the kind of character I'd be friends with if she were real.
Plus, I love the cover.
Also, for those interested, Suzanne Supplee is a local author. :)

It's a YA novel--which seems to be all my brain can handle these days--but was really good. You can get it for $6 or $7 at Amazon. (Or free at the library.)
