An embarrassment of riches

Finished reading The Elegance of the Hedgehog last week. It's good. When I read books that have been translated, I spend the whole time, in the back of my head, thinking about why the translator chose to use one word over another or how a certain passage would have been rendered in the original. I find it quite fascinating.

That must be such a fun job, translating.

It must be weird having to translate slang or idioms though.

Wait, didn't you mention the book a while ago? A week or two, maybe? Maybe it was you I got it from.

I mentioned it a while ago on facebook. At least 6 weeks ago actually, because I took it on vacation with me and didn't read a single page.

I'm reading The Elegance of the Hedgehog right now, and I love it so far.

I've been tweeting about this book a lot lately - it was a #bookspotting find, and then I bought it that day too.
I'm reading Fear the Worst, and holy crap, so good (if you like suspense).
Oh dear. I suspect with you in my neighborhood now I am going to be checking out billions of books from my library. :D

It is interesting to see what books people by and why. I used to buy almost all the books I was interested in, but working in a library now (and uh, having bills to pay) has really kept me from buying as many. Every now and then though I just can't resist and I'll impulse buy something at Books-a-Million, even if it's something I hadn't heard of before.

I hope so. :) I am a hardcore reader and I tend to be a pusher for the books I like.

I would love to work at a library. I think it's got to be one of the best jobs ever. (Also book critic, although there are a lot of books I wouldn't want to read.)

Oh, I absolutely love it. I'm the periodicals coordinator, so I get to be around magazines and journals as well as books--it's fabulous!

And yes, being a book critic would be a blast! Our library actually hosts a book review competition every year for the students. I only entered it once when I was a student, but it was a lot of fun to do.
