Daytime Emmys Live Blog
So I'm a little bored so I figured, why not? I had fun with the MTV Movie awards, so...
Rachael Ray is hosting.
Wow. Her voice is a little annoying.
And here's Bob Barker, surrounded by pretty girls. I guess they're the Price is Right models? Hmm.
Anyway, while the crowd's gushing over Bob, I will be honest. My mom is in love with the CBS soaps, so I grew up with Guiding Light and if pressed, can still identify at least half the people on the show. I haven't watched it since freshman year of college, but I still have a huge fondness for it.
Okay, people from the Bold and the Beautiful are presenting an award.
Supporting Actress Drama:
Genie Francis, General Hospital
Renee Elise Goldsberry, One Life to Live
Rebecca Herbst, General Hospital
Lesli Kay, The Bold and the Beautiful
Gina Tognoni, Guiding Light
Heather Tom, One Life to Live
I'm hoping for Genie Francis or Gina Tognoni. Gina 'cause she's on Guiding Light and Genie 'cause...well, she's LAURA. And back at WMDT, we watched a LOT of General Hospital. While answering phones, I also got sucked into All My Children. (I have since broken the soap habit...except, obviously, for the little One Tree Hill thing.)
It goes to Genie Francis. Awesome; good for her. Oh, she's pretty; I love her dress.
Ellen? I hear Ellen's music.
ELLEN! I have the obligatory crush on Ellen. (Seriously, if you don't, they kick you out and you have to date boys again.)
It's for Best Game Show Host now. Gee, I wonder who will win. Could it be Bob Barker?
Ben Bailey, Cash Cab
Bob Barker, The Price is Right
Pat Sajak, Wheel of Fortune
Alex Trebek, Jeopardy!
Meredith Vieira, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?
I'm guessing Bob. I was right.
On our website, we currently have a poll for the best game show. So far, Price is Right is winning. (Other options are Let's Make a Deal, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.) My coworker Seni and I are bitter that Press Your Luck wasn't an option. Whammy on that.
Rachael Ray is back. With her voice.
Commercial time.
When we return, people from OLTL are presenting and the guy mispronounced drama.
Outstanding Supporting Actor, Drama
Trent Dawson, As The World Turns
Dan Gauthier, One Life To Live
Rick Hearst, General Hospital
Greg Rikaart, Young and the Restless
Kristoff St. John, Young and the Restless
I'm pulling for Dan or Rick. Rick, of course, was Alan-Michael on Guiding Light in the 90s, so I will always love him for that. And Dan Gauthier was in Teen Witch, one of my favorite guilty pleasures of the 80s. It's Rick Hearst! Yay. :)
Rick Hearst, it has to be said, has probably been on every soap at one point or another.
It's Morgan Fairchild. Morgan was in Phantom of the Mall in the 80s and she looks exactly the same. How much work could she possibly have had done? Heavenly God.
Highlight reel from Guiding Light. I've been tempted to DVR it lately, but really, I don't need more TV to watch.
Y&R people are presenting now.
Outstanding Younger Actress, Drama
Julie Berman, General Hospital
Alexandra Chando, As The World Turns
Stephanie Gatschet, Guiding Light
Jennifer Landon, As The World Turns
Levin Rambin, All My Children
I'm hoping for Stephanie or Levin. It's Jennifer Landon. She's pretty...except, sweetie, try not to adjust your dress at the podium. She's nervous and it's very cute.
They're going to Lisa Rinna at some sort of K-Mart B studio. She's talking to Rick Hearst. I love him and all, but now I just want this show to keep going forward 'cause we're supposed to go on at 11.
Oooh, it's Zach and Ryan from All My Children.
It's Outstanding Talk Show Host time.
Tyra Banks, The Tyra Banks Show
Ellen DeGeneres, The Ellen DeGeneres Show
Dr. Phil McGraw, Dr. Phil
Rachael Ray, Rachael Ray
Lisa Rinna and Ty Treadway, Soap Talk
Barbara Walters, Rosie O'Donnell, Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck, The View
Ellen, Ellen, Ellen? Yay, Ellen!
Oh, I love her. :)
As the World Turns people now.
Performer on a Children's Series
Lavar Burton, Reading Rainbow
Kevin Clash, Sesame Street
The guy who plays Oscar, Sesame Street
I hope it's Oscar. I love Oscar. He deserves an Emmy. It's a tie. Kevin (Elmo) won and so did...oh, please, Oscar. OSCAR WON! Yay, Oscar! His tux is great, too. It's all gross and his flower looks so dead.
I should make this a part of my advice: Never thank a grouch. (That's from Oscar.)
My cousin has a tattoo of Roger Rabbit (his name's Rodger) and I think if I were to continue that family tradition, mine would be of Oscar. (Except I wouldn't want to have a cartoon tattoo.)
Days of our Lives now.
Outstanding Young Actor, Daytime
Van Hansis, As the World Turns
Bryton McClure, Young and the Restless
Tom Pelphrey, Guiding Light
Jesse Soffer, As the World Turns
James Stevenson, Passions
I'm hoping Van wins for playing Luke on As the World Turns or Tom for being Jonathan on Guiding Light. And it's Bryton McClure.
Bold and the Beautiful people--it's Stephanie and the fantastic Betty White, who looks awesome. It's a Bold and the Beautiful highlight reel.
It's a highlight tape for Bob Barker.
Bob's getting a standing ovation.
Back to Lisa Rinna, who's with Genie Francis and Tony Geary. (You may have heard of them, Luke and Laura?)
I know she (Lisa Rinna) was on Veronica Mars and everything, but her plastic surgery scares me. Like Morgan Fairchild looks gorgeous but Lisa Rinna's lips are scary.
It's Jerry Springer now, discussing the audience and introducing us to the accountants--the people who are in charge of the voting. He just made a hanging chad joke.
Okay, it's Luke and Laura again, to present the award for outstanding lead actress, drama.
Crystal Chappell, Guiding Light
Jeanne Cooper, Young and the Restless
Michelle Stafford, Young and the Restless
Maura West, As the World Turns
Kim Zimmer, Guiding Light
I could go for Crystal or Kim winning, but I'm rooting for Maura, as I have a crush on her (she's Carly).
It's Maura West! YAY!
And yeah, she's straight and has, like, four kids. I don't care.
Passions people are presenting now.
Outstanding Drama Series Directing Team
As the World Turns
General Hospital
Guiding Light
One Life to Live
Guiding Light...no, As the World Turns.
Okay, it's Peter Bergman (Y&R) and John McCook (B&B). Lee Phillips Bell is getting a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Okay, it's Guiding Light people.
Outstanding Drama Series Writing Team
The Bold and the Beautiful
General Hospital
Guiding Light
The Young and the Restless
I'm hoping for Guiding Light. I'm guessing I'm right as the girls just screamed. Yup, I was. :) Yay!
Vivica A. Fox is out now. Highlight reel for Young and the Restless.
The View women (minus Rosie) are out now. We're seeing winners that got their awards before tonight.
Oooh, speaking of Emmys, one of my coworkers won a news Emmy. Much love for Mike Schuh. :)
Kim Zimmer's out. Oh, and I do not like her dress. She's discussing the Find Your Light thing that GL is doing.
Tyra Banks is out now. I hate her dress, too. More awards from yesterday.
Okay, Eva LaRue is out now. Oustanding Lead Actor, Drama
Peter Bergman, Young and the Restless
Anthony Geary, General Hospital
Ricky Paull Goldin, Guiding Light
Christian LeBlanc, Young and the Restless
Michael Park, As the World Turns
I'm hoping for Anthony Geary or Ricky Paull Goldin. It's Christian LeBlanc. Oh, his speech is funny. He said that he talked trash to Michael and Ricky. :) I like when people try (and succeed) to be funny.
Lisa and Alex Trebek are talking. Alex is very menacing, discussing that Bob wins over and over.
Mario Van Peebles is out. Highlight reel for One Life to Live.
OH! They just showed Bailey! Chandra Wilson. She always looks so gorgeous at awards shows. I saw on SoapNet (where they have my beloved Melrose Place and 90210 reruns) that she hosted some sort of pre-Emmy show on there today. I missed that though; we don't have SoapNet back here at the web center.
They've been showing clips of fans talking about how they love soaps and why, and someone said that after having watched OLTL for 35 years, they were like family. That's how I felt about Guiding Light...until Blake and Ross broke up. Then they disappeared. Now Ross is on OLTL, calling himself Clint. (I am not fooled.) I don't know what's happened to Blake; I think she's pretty much off-screen too. So yeah, we broke up my freshman year in college. I kind of miss it, but I think it was for the best.
Okay, Phil Donahue.
Outstanding Talk Show
Dr. Phil
The Ellen DeGeneres Show
Rachael Ray
The Tyra Banks Show
The View
Ellen? Please? It's Ellen again! Yay. :) I notice she didn't thank Portia last time. Doesn't look like she will this time, either. She was sitting next to her, though, so I think...crap, she just said, "Portia, I still love you this year." *sigh* Looks like Ellen and I will continue to be apart.
Rachael Ray presents the award for Best Drama Award
Bold and the Beautiful
One Live to Live
Guiding Light
Young and the Restless
It's another tie--Guiding Light wins--YAY! And it also goes to Young and the Restless. Oh, and we are five out for the 11, so it looks like we're going on on time. :) Yay. This award show rocks. :) (Oscars--take note.)
Comments
Too bad Days of Our Lives is so campy that it will not get not nominated, much less win, any Daytime Emmys anytime soon.
Genie Francis and Rick Hearst winning rocks though. And Christian LeBlanc is hysterical
Oh, and Oscar the Grouch should have won the Emmy outright. To Hell with that annoying Elmo
