Saturday update
So I'm at work and my monitor here is about to die. The colors are all faded and every so often, it'll go to black for a second. I sent my boss an email asking her to ask the IT guys to fix it on Monday--here's hoping it'll last until then.
Three shifts until vacation. That's what I keep telling myself.
Meanwhile, I read a lot over the past week. I read the new Stephen King, which I loved. That's not too surprising, because I've loved all of his except for the first book in the Dark Tower series (The Gunslinger), Dreamcatcher and the Tommyknockers. Still, I'm glad this one kept up with the others. :) It's about a guy who's brain damaged and manages to pull off kidnapping an incredibly wealthy family's baby with the help of his partner-in-crime's ghost. I'm simplifying, but it's really good.
I also read Dedication, which I liked much better than Citizen Girl but not quite as much as Nanny Diaries. It's about a woman who's still in love with her high school boyfriend, who grew up to be a rock star...and write songs about their relationship. Including the first time they had sex. (Ouch.) The problem with the book is that they don't really show why this guy is so worthy of being pined over for years. Like most people (maybe everyone?), I have pined for someone, and so I know that it's hard to explain why this person is worthy of unrequited love long after someone sane would've written the whole thing off. That said, I'm also not the author of a published novel about it. So try harder.
I think my next book will be Creepers.

I pulled Gerald's Game off the bookshelf this past week, finished it in 2 days. It was, um, a bit disturbing at times, but a good read. Now I'm working on Devil in the White City.
I saw Dedication while I was looking for a book for Steve for Father's Day yesterday and remembered you had posted it in your blog. I figured I would wait to see if you liked it before I decided to buy it. ;-)
Gerald's Game. Good God. I liked it, but wow. Disturbing, yeah. Poor pervy Gerald.
If you're ever in Baltimore (except for next week, when I'll be out of town), you can totally borrow it. I liked it, but it was basically like, "Really? This guy? You can't get over THIS GUY?"
Blaze (the new one) is really good. In tone, it's similar to Lisey's Story, which I also liked. Plot-wise, they're totally different, but it's another book of his that isn't at all scary.
I loved Cell, too--I do prefer his scary stuff, but I'll read everything he does.
I will look for the sequel if I like this one. I haven't started it yet, but I'm looking forward to it.
