Vacation word problem
Kelly has a handful of friends that she wants to see on vacation and limited time in which to do it. She plans to have dinner with everyone.
Except.
If Josh, Jon and Charles are completely, unforgivably rude to the straight media friends they don't know...
And Kelly (different Kelly) and Kathy used to date (they broke up roughly a year ago) and will not act like grownups attend a function together, even one that would involve them sitting at opposite ends of a table and ignoring each other, but talking to me...
What should Kelly (me) do?
(Prelim answer: Hug Amanda for being the one grownup friend I have.)

invite them all, ask them to behave for one night so you can spend time with them, and if they can't then it's their choice not to come.
If you invite this one but not that one, etc, then you become the bad guy and that's not your goal. You want 'em all to come to dinner and have a good time with you and you want to enjoy seeing your friends.
Put the honus on them. It's not your fault they decide to act a certain way.
Total bummer that you have to deal with the drama tho. :(
I think it's basically going to be dinner for everyone but Kelly, and the bar will be Kelly and Amanda if she wants to come.
I'm basically just going to see Josh, Jon and Charles at Saturday's party--they don't get a second chance to be rude to my other friends.
Josh and Jon (couple) and Charles (their friend--he's my friend too but I know him through them) pretty much dislike straight people, especially straight men. They admitted this after the fact when I was like, "Why were you so rude to my friends?" So they would get along with Kelly and Kathy, plus Amanda (and Dana, if she comes too) and me, but would not get along with Chris (and Ashley) and Haywood. Chris and Haywood are both straight men who work in the media.
I don't know how Kelly would be to Kathy, but I know that Kathy has said multiple times that she doesn't want to see Kelly again and has also been really hesitant to go places where Kelly *might* be.
Of course I also recognize it's not so easy for everyone. I give massive *HUGS* and hope that your friends behave themselves. Otherwise, I hear keeping a spray bottle at hand is useful. Just spritz them in the eyes and say "BEHAVE" very loudly. Spooks 'em right into submission.
I LOVE THAT SCENE! I say you should try it.
I got a Spiderman squirt toy in a box of Cheerios, but it is really small. I will have to look for a squirt bottle. That would be funny.
