My 10 year high school reunion is in September sometime. I'm trying to decide if I should go. My gut reaction is no, because I'm not that close to anyone I went to high school with. I talk to exactly one of my old friends, and even that is basically limited to the occasional Facebook message.
I don't know. I didn't hate high school like a lot of people did, but I didn't love it, either. And I don't see the point in going back. Unless there's an open bar. I could get behind that.
So do you guys do high school reunions? Are they more fun than I think they'd be?
What's your favorite thing about being sick?
I only stay home from work if I can't sit up for eight hours in a row. So if I'm sick, I'm probably at work anyway. This means that I don't have a favorite thing about being sick.
Okay, so seriously, when I get my tax rebate check, you know what I'm buying?
One of those coffin things, I think in the blue. They're $80 but are so insanely badass, I think I'll love it forever.
Should you wish to get one of your own (or pick up a birthday present for your favorite Kelly ;) ), you can get it at their Etsy.
Okay, I am officially offline until tomorrow night sometime. I will post pics of the horror con as soon as I can. :)
I posted this last year, but I think it bears repeating.
This is taken from my friend Karen's blog (a while back) at pulpfriction.blogspot.com :
In 2000, Team Bush took over the Republican Party and laid out its promises to the American people. The following pledges and claims are taken directly from the 2000 GOP platform. Should we laugh or cry at promises made by an administration that has ruled through deception, endless war, politicization of intelligence and the Justice Department, outing CIA officers and the like?
Honest Government:
"Trust, pride and respect: we pledge to restore these qualities to the way Americans view their government."
Keeping Intelligence Free of Politics:
"Nor should the intelligence community be made the scapegoat for political misjudgments. A Republican administration working with the Congress will respect the needs and quiet sacrifices of these public servants as it stengthens America's intelligence and counter-intelligence capabilities."
Diplomacy and Maintaining Allies:
"The arrogance, inconsistency and unreliability of the [Clinton] administration's diplomacy have undermined American alliances, alienated friends and emboldened our adversaries."
Endless Military Missions, Exit Strategies and Troop Readiness:
"The current administration has casually sent American armed forces on dozens of missions without clear goals, realizable objectives, favorable rules of engagement or defined exit strategies."
"Sending our military on vague, aimless and endless missions rapidly saps morale."
"Even the highest morale is eventually undermined by back-to-back deployments, poor pay, shortages of spare parts and equipment, inadequate training and rapidly declining readiness. When it comes to military health, the administration is not providing an adequate military health care system."
Restoring the Rule of Law and the Justice Department:
"The rule of law, the very foundation for a free society, has been under assault, not only by criminals from the ground up, but also from the top down. An adminstration that lives by evasion, cover up, stonewalling and duplicity has given us a totally discredited Department of Justice. The credibility of those who now manage the nation's top law enforcement agency is tragically eroded. We are fortunate to have its dedicated career workforce, especially its criminal prosecutors, who have faced the unprecedented politicization of decisions regarding both personnel and investigations."
Gas Prices (then $1.55 per gallon):
"Today, gas prices have skyrocketed, and oil imports are at all-time highs...By any reasonable standard, the Department of Energy has utterly failed in its mission to safeguard America's energy security."
Me again. Keep in mind, this is what George W. Bush said when he was running for president--so he's bashing the Clinton administration.
He has endorsed John McCain. Now granted, the odds of me voting for a Republican...well, not good odds. But the person who bashed Clinton for high gas prices and damaging the government in the eyes of Americans? Telling me to vote for McCain? Uh. No thanks. But it means a lot that you tried.
My mom took Sam about an hour ago. It's weird 'cause now I can go out and not have to worry about coming home to let Sam out. I can go to the movies and see two or three in a row. Of course, there's really nothing good playing now. I want to see 21 but it didn't get very good reviews. I want to see Stop-Loss but that's not playing near me.
So I have no idea what I'm going to do today. Katie's not coming over until tonight.
Finished The Invention of Hugo Chabret by Brian Selznick last night. I started it at around 11 and figured I'd just read a couple chapters before going to bed.
Yeah, that didn't happen.
It's really good. It's about a kid who lives in a train station and is trying to make an automaton work. Along the way, he meets a guy who runs a toy store in the station and his goddaughter (also a kid) and he (very reluctantly) enlists their help.
Well, it's more like they thrust it upon him than he asks for it, but anyway.
I know I said I'd read the Philippa Gregory book but my brain rebelled against more historical fiction. So that and the Alison Weir novel are on hold for the time being.
Finished The Queen's Fool by Philippa Gregory. It's about Queen Mary (Bloody Mary) and her battles with her half-sister Elizabeth. I liked it, but I still have to say that Other Boleyn Girl is my favorite.
Next up? The Virgin's Lover.
So I got Away From Her, 30 Days of Night and The Kite Runner from Netflix. I had hoped to get The Mist, but sadly that was not to be. (It's apparently also backordered on Amazon, so I can't even buy it. I may snag it after I get paid.)
I'll probably do that tomorrow during the day. My mom's coming up tomorrow evening and staying over and then taking Sam. I hate that they're leaving early Friday. :( (She's watching him because I'll be at the horror convention over the weekend.) I know he'll have a great time, but I won't get him back until Monday. (And I have to work Monday.)
I'm taking a ton of pictures of the horror con, and I cannot wait. :) My friend Katie's coming too and it'll be a fantastic time.
I'd also like to finish The Queen's Fool but I don't know if that'll happen 'cause I still have 300 pages to go.
